Short description: The Dubomat is an interactive vending machine which functions as physical and digital music distributor.
Project description:
How can dub culture, electronic music and a jukebox be combined with a cigarette vending machine? The ‘Dubomat’ project explores the repurposing of such a machine as an interface for digital and physical audio playback. In collaboration with local artists, it offers a selection of unreleased tracks – so-called ‘dubs’. By selecting a button, a representative excerpt from one of the tracks can be played. If a user likes one of the tracks, it can be purchased in the usual way, as with a cigarette vending machine. Upon inserting a coin and selecting a button, a physical data carrier containing the chosen track is dispensed, packaged in a box. The box itself is not merely a means of storage or transport, but becomes the cover artwork for the songs. With a target audience comprising DJs, music lovers, fans of the artists, general music consumers and event-goers, the use of the Dubomate at electronic music events promises to generate widespread interest in this innovative feature.
