Short description: engineering the geometry of motion

Project description:

This project presents a conceptual high-speed rail alignment between Villach and Klagenfurt using ProVI software. The aim is to design an efficient, safe, and sustainable corridor based on modern rail planning principles. The workflow includes terrain analysis, horizontal and vertical alignment design, and corridor modeling. Digital elevation data was used to evaluate topography and identify constraints such as valleys and existing infrastructure. The horizontal alignment uses large-radius curves and smooth transitions for high speeds, while the vertical alignment ensures moderate gradients and reduced earthworks. Cross-sections and corridor models support visualization and construction assessment. Environmental impacts were minimized by avoiding sensitive areas. Overall, the project highlights ProVI as an effective tool for data-driven railway design.
