Short description: Our project is an educational escape room that helps students build data literacy by solving puzzles based on data visualizations and learning how visual design shapes meaning.
Project description:
As part of the InfoVis MediaLab, our team is developing an educational escape room that introduces students to data visualization in an interactive and engaging way. The project combines physical puzzle stations, storytelling, and a supporting website to create a hands-on learning experience for students aged 16–18. Players work in teams to solve data-visualization-based riddles and tasks that help them explore different chart types, interpret visual information, and think critically about how data is presented. The main goal is to foster data literacy by helping students understand visualizations, read them more confidently, and recognize how meaning is shaped through visual design. The final outcome will be a playable prototype with reproducible puzzle stations, a guiding website, and reusable materials for classroom and workshop use.
